Level 1 Course | Level 2 Course
There are two Mastery of Math courses: Level 1 and Level 2. Level 1 is prerequisite for Level 2. Each course is one week long and includes 15 hours of instruction (3 hours per day), a workbook and 5 hours of webinar review sessions.
The classes have a small ratio of students to instructors, with lots of individual attention. Snacks and drinks are provided throughout each daily session.
The methods for arithmetic taught in Mastery of Math are built around two main ideas: Answers are formed using a “digit by digit” approach. Plus, every digit is checked as soon as it is computed. These two ideas ensure that correct final answers are obtained efficiently and reliably.
Mastery of Math will teach your child to check their answers. After learning the methods your child will know how to find answers reliably, efficiently and accurately.
Level 1 Course
The Level 1 course covers the topics of checking answers, addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
After learning Casting Out 9’s your child will be able to tell that
is incorrect, without doing the multiplication. Learning to check answers efficiently and rapidly is a skill that will benefit your child their whole life.
In Mastery of Math your child will learn to subtract numbers without borrowing:
Many students report that they prefer this method of subtraction almost instantly, even though they may have already spent several years using the traditional method.
You child will learn to do lengthy multiplication problems with ease:
The first few lines show the problem setup. The next line shows the digit check for each column. The next line shows the column total and the last lines show the answer and final check.
Level 2 Course
The Level 2 course goes more deeply into multiplication, and covers fractions, long division, and square roots.
In schools today, students rarely ever learn to compute square roots. In Mastery of Math, students learn that multiplication, division, and square roots are close variations of the same operation.
Your child will see that division is just multiplication in reverse. Here, we’ll reverse the previous multiplication to perform a division.
In the Level 2 course your child will learn to subtract mixed numbers with ease:
Your child will learn to square numbers in one line:
After learning to square numbers, your child will learn that square roots are just squaring in reverse. We’ll find the square root of 153.76:
